Anna Jennie Oelmann Harken died in the 1918 flu epidemic and fromchildbirth.
It is written in the Oelmann Genealogy records that she and the baby wereburied in the same grave... Records indicate that she was pregnant at thetime. They believe that the doctors may have tried to take the baby whenthey saw that Anna was not going to live and that the baby didn't liveeither. Furthermore, we do not know whether the baby was viable. In anyregard this should serve to explain why the statement that Anna and thebaby were buried together. Agreement between the JD Oelmann cousins inJuly 2001 is that she died both from the flu and from childbirth. Thechild, gender not known, and Anna were buried in one coffin at WestFriesland Presbyterian Church Cemetery. A tombstone or marker has notbeen found, but verification is being sought farm the church as to herburial location. The question of when Annie and John R. Harken weremarried has been narrowed to before 13 August 1914 because JD's willrefers to her as Anna Harken. In the probate proceedings Record on 13March 1915 she was referred to as Anna Harken of Austinville, Iowa.
In the 1910 census she was listed as Annie Jennie Oelmann living with hergrandfather and listed as single.
These notes are from Harlan Oelmann.
