Lord of Mush and prince of Taron's Xut' and of Sasun.1 MuÜegh I Mamikonean, Marzpan of Armenia was
born circa 525?. He was the son of Hmayeak II Mamikonean, Nakharar of Taron.2 He was commander of
Emperor Maurice's armies in an attack on Thrace after 582.3 Prince of the Mamikoneans.4 He was
established as marzpan of Armenia, and given 30,000 Armenian troops by Xosrov, on orders from the
Emperor Maurice.4 Viceroy of Armenia, between 591 and 593.4 He died in 593. His army destroyed in
a great slaughter, the Thracians arrested him, bound him to a tall tree in the forest, and killed
him.3,5 "That very year the [church of] St. Karapet which was located at Innaknean collapsed
because there was a very severe earthquake causing the houses below/south of [the church] to
crumble. Now the church (since its foundation was on the [earthquake line]) moved and cracked.
The prince of Taron, Mushegh, gave much treasure and ordered stone masons to an unknown person
build. However, they were unable to build it in a fitting manner, since the Iranian troops were
harassing them. That very year Mushegh an unknown person built St. Karapet and then died. He is
buried by the Arcrunid prince on the eastern side."
