Kind(eren):
She was the daughter of Henry Curwen who was the brother of Jane Curwen
Christian. She was 13 when her father died, and was placed in the
guardianship of Bridget and Jane Christian. She was very wealthy, heiress to
"Workington" Hall and huge mining interests. She attracted many wealthy
suitors, and her trustees humored her with such gifts as the island in the
middle of Windermere, eventually named "Belle Isle". She had always had a
strong affection for her "prodigious" cousin, John, and despite being sent
away to schools in London, her guardians had been unable to keep the two
apart, and they ran away to Scotland to marry, later resanctifying the
marriage in the parish church of St. Mary Magdalene in Bermondsey. She was
well known to her other cousin, Fletcher Christian, and it is likely that he
called Maimiti "Isabella" in memory of her. (Glynn Christian: Fragile
Paradise)
