The Gathering of the clan, august 1905
Uncle Charley got donations from all of the men and bought a gold "Huntingcase" Watch. It was engraved and presented to William Holman DeMotte the oldest living De Motte, and has been handed down to the oldest De Motte since.
They took a rail from the old homeplace, that was estimated to be 100 years old, and had it made into a Cane which was presented to Mark Lindsay DeMotte.
It was a time of great preparations and everyone looked forward to it with greatest pleasure and anticipation. They employed Alyois Sprauer of Jasper to take photographs. They gathered one Sunday in August at the old homeplace which was owned by Sebastian DeMotte, his mother and Aunt Elizabeth. The women had bought all the good things to fix for a beautiful spread, commonplace for them in those days.
The entire family was present except Grandpa and Grandma´s girls. They had to stay home and prepare for the supper that was to be held at their home that night.
The Watch was presented to William Holman DeMotte and the Cane to Mark Lindsay DeMotte. Mr. Sprauer posed them and took the pictures. One was all of the men and boy, another of the family with all of their children and wives and husbands. The picture was very good and most of the family have copies of them. Of course, the day was spent visiting and an event that no one ever forgot.
