Mr De Mott is known for his integrity, straightforwardness, reliability, firmness, and decided opinions. He has taken no part in politics, but has led a quiet life as a farmer.
The children of this union are Rachel who resides with her father; John a farmer in Palisade township, on part of the old homestead; Jacob J. Jr., died Dec 20, 1869 aged forty-six years leaving a widow and tow daughters; Mary Helen and rachel Gertrude, Garret W., a farmer in Palisade township, on a part of the old homestead; Henry a merchant at Englewood, N.J.; James Blauvelt, died Nov 22, 1862 aged twenty-seven years leaving a widow and one daughter, Gertrude.
The De Motts have been members of the Reformed Dutch Church and their ancestors were among the founders of the church at Schraalenburgh.
