Obituary for J. C Legel
Funeral J. C. Legel
Yesterday morning at the new cemetery at the Pandoeweg was the burial of Mr. JC Legel, whose death we mentioned on Saturday. The coffin with the mortal remains was (hot?) in the funeral bier of the cemetery, surrounded by a large number of flower arrangements.
Almost all planters from Pengalengansche attended this sad ceremony. We noticed among others the administrator of "Negla" Mr. ir KA Kerkhoven, boss of the deceased, the chief administrator of "Malabar", Mr. HG Ermeling, the administrators, Messrs. AJ Vos "Wanasoeka", NJ Weeldenburg of "Taioen", J. R Vloten of "Tjoekoel", C.L.M. Brants' of “Lodaja ", M. A. van Roggen, leader of the Governmental (Kina?) and Tea Company to Tjinjiroean, moreover, Professor W Boomstra, and numerous friends and acquaintances of Mr. Legel, many of their ladies also.
At the stroke of 10 hours the body was carried to his final resting place.
Ir. Kerkhoven conducted the first word of the open pit. The speaker recalled Mr. Legel, his private secretary, as a stalwart worker. In the last five years, as he had worked with the deceased, he got to know him better. Mr. Legel was someone who performed his task with cheerfulness, for whom nothing was too much. His sudden passing is a heavy blow, but there is a great comfort, and know that this peace is fully deserved for Mr. Legel, after his fruitful labour.
The speaker testified to the widow and children his sincere condolences with this irreparable loss.
Then Mr. NJ Weeldenburg spoke on behalf of the Road Syndicate. The speaker paid tribute to the deceased for the work that he had done during long years for the syndicate with cheerfulness and dedication.
The last speaker was Mr M. A. Roggen, on behalf of the Association for Sick union of Pengalengan who recalled that the deceased, Mr. Legel was for about 20 years secretary-treasurer-master, the major work force of the service with correctness, zeal and cheerfulness. The passing of Mr. Legel therefore signifies for the union an irreparable loss.
A friend of the deceased thanked on behalf of the family for the show of great interest and participation.
