Mildred DePree, 93, a former resident of New York City, died Wednesday at Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula. Born Aug. 19, 1908, in Zeeland, Mich., she lived in New York for 42 years before moving to Carmel in 1991. Ms. DePree was a graduate of Hope College, Holland, Mich., and a high school teacher of German and English. Later, she was employed in the Social Welfare Department at Michigan State University, and on the staff of the Diplomatic Adviser’s Officer with the United Nations Refugee Relief Administration in Washington, D.C. In 1949, she joined the United Nations in New York City, and retired as assistant production director in the Public Information Division of the United National International Children’s Emergency Fund in 1968. In retirement, she lived in Manhattan and wrote a children’s book, which was published in 1973. Ms. DePree is survived by a niece, Nancy Nichols of Reeding, England. Private family services will be held at a later date at the Zeeland Cemetery in Zeeland, Mich. The Paul Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
