Lloyd Richard Kieft

Lloyd Richard Kieft, age 79, of Grand Haven passed away Sunday, April 18, 2010 at a local care facility. He was born October 1, 1930, in Grand Haven, to Thomas F. and Harriet (Bol) Kieft. After graduating from Grand Haven High School, Lloyd proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Air Force. He married Lois Ann Huizenga on March 29, 1957 in Grand Rapids. Lloyd was employed by the Kieft Insurance Agency from 1947 to 2006 and retired in 2007 after 59 years of employment. He was a member of Second Christian Reformed Church, past commander of the V.F.W and lifetime member of the V.F.W. National Home, former member of the American Legion, past member and president of the Ambucs and a Boy Scout Leader for Troops 14 and 16. Lloyd also enjoyed watching Grand Haven Buccaneers Basketball and Football, was an avid U of M fan, and spent time bowling, playing golf and gardening. He is survived by his wife, Lois; daughters: Cheryl (Douglas) Diephouse of Grand Haven & Jane (Arnold) Boterenbrood of Clinton, MI; sons: L. Richard (Brigette) Kieft of Lansing & Timothy E. Kieft of West Bloomfield, MI; nine grandchildren: Katelyn, Zachary, & Jordan Diephouse; Aidan & Jenna Boterenbrood; Courtney & Stacey Kieft and Jacob & Tyler Kieft. Also surviving are his sisters: Joyce (Don) Klaassen of Grand Haven; Edarae (Terry) Friefeldt of Grand Haven; brother, Thomas Jr. (Kathleen) Kieft of Grand Haven; in-laws: Neil (Sherry) Huizenga of Grand Rapids, Ruth(Warren) Stuk of Holland and Mary Huizenga of Kentwood, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Micah in 1987. The funeral service for Lloyd will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at the Second Christian Reformed Church with the Rev. Michael Koetje officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, at Klaassen Family Funeral Home. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the V.F.W. Sgt. Alvin Jonker Post 2326 Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Haven Christian School or the V.F.W. Ward Golf Scholarship Fund.
