  Loving husband of 41 years to the late (1995) Adriana "Jean" (Van Der Venne.)
  
  John was born in the Netherlands and attended Horticulture School there. He immigrated to Canada in 1949 along with three of his brothers and settled in the Blenheim area. John initially worked as a farm labourer and later as a florist. When he and Jean moved to St. Thomas, Ontario, he worked as a machinist for 21 years with Durametallic Canada and retired in 1988.
  
  John proudly embraced his family and was a devoted parishioner of St. Anne's Parish where he made numerous dear friends in the Choir and Prayer Groups. He also enjoyed many years of service volunteering with VON "Meals on Wheels". He loved nature, enjoyed gardening, painting landscapes, woodworking and travelling with Jean. John will be remembered for his generosity, his quick and playful wit and wonderful smile.
  
  Predeceased by his siblings Annie (Liebregts), Arnold, Paul, Ed, Lucy (van Boxmeer) and Ben. Survived by brother Herman ("Bill") Westelaken - Oshawa, sisters-in-law Mary (nee Roberts) Westelaken - Orillia, Marie Hinde - New Zealand, Theodora Arts - Netherlands, brothers-in-law Louis Van Boxmeer - London, Adrian Van Der Venne (Nellie) - Leamington, Martin (Gerarda) Van Der Venne - Netherlands, Henricke Van Der Venne - Netherlands.
  
  John will also be remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews across Canada.
  
  The family will receive friends at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas visitation at 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., Friday, September 9, 2022.
  
  Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 10, 2022 at St. Anne's Parish, 20 Morrison Dr. St. Thomas with burial following at Holy Angels' Cemetery.
