  Douglas- Marilyn B. (DeHaas) Hughes, 72, of West St., passed away on Sunday June 16, 2024 at her home peacefully with her loving family at her side after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
  
  She is survived by her adoring husband of 30 years, Michael D. Hughes; 2 children, Katherine A. Ashe of Holiday, FL, and Andrew M. Ashe and his wife Kelly of Worcester; 2 step children, Corey M. Hughes and his wife Jessica of Burke, VA, Matthew B. Hughes and his wife Lauren of Hudson, NH; 5 step grandchildren, Benjamin, Quentin, Reilly, Camden, and Parker, and many great friends.
  
  Born in Newport, RI on January 20, 1952 she was the adopted daughter of Frank and Anna (Dufries) DeHaas and grew up in Whitinsville. She was a graduate of Northbridge High school class of 1970 and furthered her education and attained a nursing degree from Quinsigamond Community College in 1987. Marilyn worked as a Registered Nurse many years and for various area hospitals including UMass and most recently worked in research nursing at Boston Scientific for several years until her retirement in 2018.
  
  Marilyn enjoyedtraveling with her husband and especially in their motorhome around New England, taking road trips on the back of Michael's Harley. She was an avid reader and loved dogs, especially her golden retriever and dachshund. Marilyn was a kind woman with a bubbly and positive personality and would make friends anywhere. She will be remembered for her upbeat attitude and her great sense of humor.
  
  Marilyn’s calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 20th from 5-7 PM in Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St., Douglas followed by a service at 7PM and a time for sharing memories.
