NORFOLK - Services for Richard Van Owen, 88, of Norfolk will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Home for Funerals with visitation 4-6 p.m. Monday.
Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery in Madison with military rites by American Legion Post 16, VFW Post 1644, both of Norfolk, and the Nebraska National Guard Honor Team.
Mr. Van Owen died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at Lindenwood Nursing Home in Omaha.
Richard was born on Aug. 12, 1920, in Madison, the son of Edwin and Lily Van Owen. He was raised in Norfolk.
Richard entered the U.S. Army on May 6, 1942. He served in the European theater. He returned to Norfolk after receiving his honorable discharge on Jan. 6, 1946.
Richard owned and operated the Norfolk Body Shop before opening the Gunrack, which he operated until retiring in the late 1980's. He had a life-long love for hunting and trapping. He was a member of VFW Post 1644 in Norfolk.
He is survived by his life partner, Constance Marroquin; one son and his partner, Richard E. Van Owen of Sioux City, Iowa; three grandchildren, four step grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
