On the evening of April 27th, 2002 in the home of her grandson, surrounded by her loving family and friends, Ria P.C. Lammers surrendered peacefully into the arms of her Lord.
Henrika (Ria) Paulina Christina Koster was born in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Jan. 11, 1928 to Johannes Adrianus and Elisabeth (Meeling) Koster. Married Berend J. Lammers (later divorced). They immigrated to the USA in 1956, struggled to get work, learn English and the ways of the New World to proudly become citizens in 1965.
Ria was a longtime devoted member of the First Christian Reformed Church touching the lives of so many with her unique and caring ways. She loved to talk to people just to get to know them, always giving them a big dose of her 'vitamins' better known as hugs. She had a special place in her heart for the young and the elderly, helping and caring however she could.
Her family was her first priority. She was very proud of the fact that she raised her three children as a single parent during a time when it wasn't commonplace. Oma (Grandma in Holland) was an active participant in the lives of each family member as they grew, never missing the opportunity to proudly boast about them. She had a genuine concern for their welfare. Her love was steadfast and she was always there for them.
Ria was a professional seamstress and upholsterer taking pride in producing a quality product. She loved nurturing flowers to beautify her garden. She was thrifty and frugal before it was considered recycling. She enjoyed traveling to Europe to visit family and friends. She was proud to be an American but never lost sight of her heritage or ever losing her native tongue.
Ria (Mom/Oma) will be greatly missed by her survivors of three children (spouses); Bea Thompson, Cody, WY; Petronella (Don) Boose, Gig Harbor, WA; Evert Lammers, Salt Lake City, UT.
