Sir Henri Deterding, directeur-generaal
de Koninklijke Nederlandsche Petroleum
zal morgen zijn 70en geboorte-
vieren.
Sir Henri Wilhelm August Deterding werd
te Amsterdam op 19 April 1866. Als
jongeman trad hij in dienst bij de
Bank, waar hij bleef tot zijn 22e
i n isss kwam hij bij de Nederlandsche
Maatschappij, waarvan hij in 1889
agent te Medan en vervolgens
Penang werd. Zeven jaar bleef Henri De-
bij deze onderneming, tot hij in 1896
werd bij de Koninklijke Neder-
Petroleum Maatschappij. Reeds in
volgend jaar werd hij waarnemend direc-
deze maatschappij. In 1901 volgde zijn
tot directeur en in 1902 werd Sir
Deterding directeur-generaal van de
Sir Henri Deterding is een der energiekste
van Nederland, die zichzelf geheel
bovenop gewerkt heeft. Onder zijn leiding
de Kon. Ned. Petroleum Mij. tot een we-
beheerschend concern geworden. Sedert
tijd woont dr. Deterding te Lon-
waar wijlen Koning George V hem we-
de diensten, in den oorlog aan Enge-
bewezen in den adelstand verhief. Niet-
houdt Sir Deterding zich nog zeer veel
zijn vaderland bezig en verrijkte o.a. ver-
van de Nederlandsche musea met
werken van oude meesters.
1928 werd Sir Deterding door de Tech-
\che Hoogeschool tot doctor honoris causa
de technische wetenschappen benoemd.
