Begrafenis: Lynden, Washington
Notities: Jim DeBruyn died February 2, 2010 at the age of 83. He was born September 22, 1926 to James and Christena DeBruyn in Bellingham. Living most of his life in Lynden, he attended Lynden Public Schools and Success Business College. At age 17, he joined the US Navy and later worked for the Military Sea Transport Service transporting troops during the Korean War. Following retirement from Uniflite in 1988, Jim immediately started playing pool in the morning at the Community Center and riding his bike in the afternoons. A sports enthusiast, he played fast pitch softball and also basketball for city leagues. As a young child, his mother managed the downtown hotel, so he frequently rode his tricycle up and down Front Street. On one occasion, the restaurant owner's daughter hopped on the back of Jim's tricycle and together they rode out of town onto the Guide Meridian for a half mile before someone brought them back to town. Preceded in death by his brother, Art of Lynden; sister, Gertie Davis of Bellingham and nephew Dan DeBruyn of Everett, Jim is survived by his loving wife Evelyn; daughter Wendy and husband Mike Chevalier of LaConner ; his granddaughter and best buddy since the day she was born, Lily Chevalier; nephew, Jim Davis of Korea; niece Molly Roberts of Belfaire, WA; sisters-in-law, Josie deLine and Ellen Henken of Lynden and Arlene Mann of California. Jim and his upbeat personality will be missed by his many friends. His family wishes to express their appreciation for the E.M.T.'s and all who cared for Jim at St. Joseph Hospital, the Community Cancer Center and especially the compassionate staff at Christian Health Care Center. With grateful hearts, they thank Dr. Piatt for his insistence of the best care possible for Jim. At Jim's request there will be no services.
