The history of William is taken From the book called "The History of Buchanan County." William spent much of his childhood working on his parent's farm. By the age of 14, he was earning his own living by working for a neighbour while attending school during the winter. This lasted seven years. After that, he worked for three years driving a peddler's wagon. Later he rented his mother's land and saved his money to buy 160 acres of good fertile land for crops in Byron Township. In those days, and even now, that's a lot of land to own. In his political views, he was a Republican, but had never consented to accept office, instead concentrating only on his farming, which showed evidence in his fine farm that he loved so much. William married on Wednesday, 30 December 1891 to Miss Isadora Meyer. William died on 8 December 1941 at his farm home in Bryon Township, and is buried in the Fleming-Fremont Cemetery. He was 83 years old. According to the local newspaper, "By his death, the community loses a man of honesty and integrity that built up a large friendship by his many good deeds." If William had lived a few more days, then on 30 December William and Isadora would have celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. Isadora died later on 5 August 1955, and is buried with William in the Fleming-Fremont Cemetery.
