Donald enlisted on the 8th of September 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland and was in the military for the remaining of WWII. Obituary in the "Daily American" April 21, 1988: SHERREN: Donald Jay Sherren, 66, Somerset RD 5, died April 20, 1988, in Memorial Hospital, Johnstown. Born Aug. 26, 1921, in Tunnelton, W.Va., son of the late William O. and Sadie (Bolyard) Sherren. Preceded in death by three sisters. Survived by wife, Colette J. (Vernot) Sherren, two sons and a daughter, Henry J., married to the former Sally Tylwalk, Washington, N.J.; Patrick W., married to the former Shirley Kremer, Bedford; and Suzanne, married to William Buckland, Oceana, W.Va.; four grandchildren; one brother, Ralph, Newark, Del.; two sisters, Dorothy Keys and Wilma Goff, both of Martinsburg, W.Va. Veteran of World War II where he served overseas with the Army Engineers. Member of S.S. Crouse Post 181 American Legion, Somerset. Retired from Somerset Newspapers Inc. Friends will be received 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Calvary United Methodist Church, the Rev. Harry C. Sherry officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Somerset County Humane Society.
