Lily Zadik was born in 1893 in Berlin, the capital of Germany, a daughter of a well-educated Berlin family, far from Judaism. Her father, Ignatz Justice Senior, was a doctor and a member of the Berlin City Council on behalf of the Social Democratic Party. Among her islanders were many cultural figures, including the painter Katha Colowitz, with whom Lili studied painting. Lily's brother, Walter Zedek, was an Israeli photographer in the 1930s and later a dealer in antique books in Tel Aviv. Her aunt (from marriage to her father's sister) was the socialist Edward Bernstein. In her youth, she was a member of the pioneering association "Olay Zion" in Berlin, and was associated with a group of Berlin Zionists, including Martin Buber, Kurt Blumenfeld, Felix Rosenblitt and Zalman Rubashov. Prior to immigrating to Israel, she went to agricultural training in a German village. In 1920, she immigrated to Israel.
Despite her training and tendency to art, she did little to engage with her and preferred to devote her life to the benefit of the Israeli public. She worked as a kindergarten teacher, English teacher, painting and craftsman and social worker. Berl Katznelson asked her to design the headlines for the first issue of the neWroclaw, Silesia, Polandaper, which was published on June 1, 1925. Subsequently, at his request, she wrote the letters of the inscription on Rachel the poet, and after his death, the letters on Berl Katznelson's gravestone itself.
In 1940, Lily Zedek translated the renowned children's book "The Wild Joshua" by the German physician, painter and poet Heinrich Hoffman. She did so using the signature "L", and so it turned out that until 2013 the translation was attributed to an anonymous translator.
She died in 1969 in her Holon apartment, and was buried in the Southern Cemetery. Her adopted daughter had two children.
