the famous London shoe and boot-maker, John Lobb and the general apparent lack of knowledge of his line of descent, around the time you kindly sent me the biography about him. I said at the time we would eventually find it, and now I have. I stumbled across it actually, by accident on somebody's blog, but it is backed up by the Online Parish Clerks for Cornwall. He was born not far from the centre of it all for all of us (St Neot). It was Fowey, with his maternal connection being from Tywardreath, who was a Jenkins, and his father from St Blazey. Lanteglos by Fowey is close by.
Most of us descend from Richard Lobb (b.1533-8) of Warleggan, or one of his brothers, Robert or John. Richard's grandson, another Richard (b.1607) became High Sheriff of Cornwall for a short time during the Commonwealth years under Oliver Cromwell. Among his ten children were well known Presbyterian rectors and preachers, Stephen and Peter Lobb. Stephen was well known for his sermons and treatises at Fetter Lane, London. He was also involved by association in the planned assassination of King Charles 11 and his brother, the future James 11.
