The Late Rabbi Messing's Widow Gone to Her Rest. "Information wasreceived on Sunday by MRS. A. GRUHN of this city of the death in Indianapolis, Indiana of MRS. FIGELE MESSING, wife of the late RABBI JOSEPH MESSING. MRS. MESSING was born in Calish, Germany, in 1820. At an early age she removed to the town of Poznan, Wlkp., Poland where she subsequently married Mrr MESSING. Her husband was elevated to the Hebrew priesthood shortly afterward, and continued in that position for about forty years. His death occurred in London in 1881, while he was preparing for a journey to the Holy Land. After the death of her husband,MRS. MESSING came to this city in the company with her eldest son, DR. A. J. MESSING. Her charitable works during her residence in San Francisco made her widely known and loved. About two years ago (sic 1890) she went to Chicago with her son, and from there to the home of another son, RABBI MEYER MESSING, in Indianapolis, where she resided until her death. MRS. MESSING leaves four sons and a daughter to mourn her loss, REV. DR. A. J. MESSING of St. Louis, Mo., REV. DR. MEYER MESSING of Indianapolis, SIMON MESSING of Pittsburg, Pa. and MRS. A. GRUHN of this city. Her other relatives in San Francisco are her granddaughter, MRS. MARCUS LEVY, and two-great grandchildren. Note that the daughter mentioned as Mrs. A. Grun is Henrietta Messing born August1846 in Prussia; died 2 May 1907 in San Francisco. Wife of Abraham Grun born May 18489 in Prussia and died 15 April 1911 in San Francisco. Abraham was an importer of laces, embroideries and gents furnishing goods. He had a company with Herrmann Messing named Grun & Messing. ABraman came to America on the Teutonia arriving in NY on 10 April 1862. Henrietta and Abraham had the following known children: Joseph Messiing Grun, Regina Grun, Victor Jacob Grun, Rose Grun, and an unidentified child. The son Joseph had 2 known sons Milton H. Grun and Abraham Adrian Grun (a noted philanthropist and arts patron in San Francisco, who died is 1982 in SF.
