I, too, searched the Kepno, Wlkp., Poland BMDs and couldn't find my great grandfather Nathan Blumenthal. The headstone in Broad Green Cemetery in Liverpool is as it was when it was first made in 1915. We had it restored because it had fallen, on its face - the lettering was completely intact and nothing had to be done to it other than cleaning. From that headstone I found that my Nathan's father was Mordechai.
I am not convinced that the surname actually WAS Blumenthal originally. Being unable to find them on the Kepno, Wlkp., Poland BMDs I then checked for fathers called Mordechai, I found a family with a father named Marcus Jaschkowitz and a mother named Gitel Blumenthal - son called Nissel born 5 Oct 1843. I wondered whether it is possible that this is Nathan and that he had taken his mother's surname for whatever reason.
