PRASZKER Jakub: He was a Zionist activist and one of the leaders of theuprising in the ghetto in Warsaw. He was born in Ludz in 1915. He lost his parents in early childhood, but was taken in by poor relatives, he lived in poverty and deprivation, and after finishing primary school, he learned a profession to earn a living.
After the outbreak of World War II and the takeover of Ludz by the Germans he moved to Warsaw. Confined in the ghetto, he soon became a link between the Jewish underground and the Polish resistance movement and Jewish institutions abroad, primarily the Histadrut headquarters in Geneva. On behalf of the youth organization "Hanoar Hacyjoni" he took the lead of the group of militant Jewish Fighting Organization. In January 1943 he was appointed commander of the battle group composed of members of the "Hanoar Hacyjoni" and fought during the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. He was killed along with the whole group (and with his wife) at the post in the bunker at 8 Walowa Street, blown up by the Germans.
