David Oppenheimer (1834-1897) was a pivotal figure in the development of Vancouver, British Columbia. Born in Blieskastel, Germany, he emigrated to the United States in 1848, joining the California Gold Rush. In 1858, he moved to Victoria, British Columbia, and later settled in Vancouver, where he and his brothers established a successful wholesale grocery business. During his tenure, Oppenheimer was instrumental in transforming Vancouver from a fledgling settlement into a burgeoning city. He championed infrastructure projects, including the establishment of a water system, the creation of Stanley Park, and the development of public transportation.
