Notities over Saul Kaatz

He began his education at a HighSchool in Poznan, and then studied at theNational Rabbinical School Feilchenfeld Gemara . In 1888 he graduated from the Jewish-Theological Seminary in Berlin, Brandenburg, Germany . In 1891 he obtained the Ph.D. in philosophy defending the work entitled Die Scholien des Gregorius Abulfaragius Bar Hebraeus zum Weisheitsbuch des Josua ben Sira nach der vier Handschriften des Horreum mysteriorum . The PhD thesis was published in 1892 in a book form.

In 1897, he married Elsa Wiener. She gave him two sons: Aleksander and Emmerich. His wife died in March 1924 and was buried in the Jewish cemetery in Zabrze.

After graduating from the Rabbinical school for a short time he served as a Rabbi in a private synagogue at PrinzenStr. in Berlin, Brandenburg, Germany. In 1895 he became the head Rabbi in Zabrze, and in the years 1900-1907 he taught Judaism at the Male HighSchool in Zabrze. He was one of the first Teachers of Judaism in Prussian schools. His great innovation was the introduction to the history of the Bible of elements of the history of the Jewish people.
