Frances Scherek as the wife of Joseph Greenburg, making her the mother ofGilbert Greenburg, who married Helena Polak (sometimes spelled as Polak), who were the parents of Adrian Adolph Greenburg, who became famous as Gilbert Adrian, head costumer at M-G-M and before that, at the DeMille Studio in Culver City, and before that of the Ritz-Carton and Distinctive Pictures companies in New York. I have been working for a dozen years on an Adrian biography and this is the first I have heard of a maiden name for his paternal grandmother - but it is one which coincides with other errant information regarding his ancestry. Mrs. Greenburg was born at sea, but the "Washington" is new information. It is my understanding that they were enroute from Portugal, and that she was born in New York Harbor. Adrian's Los Angeles 1959 death certificate identifies his mother as Helena Sherrick, which is erroeous, but could it be his grandmother's maiden namess After Frances' husband Joseph died in Lewiston, Androscoggin County, Maine, Frances and daughter Pearl remained there for a time, but then moved when Pearl married James D. Brown to Lawrence, Massachusetts, where it is my understanding she died.
