Notities over Joannes Franciscus Joseph Servaes

Most likely Joannes Servaes fled in June 1673 from the battlefield inMaastricht, The Netherlands, when the French King Louis XIV sieged the city. He was probably a Farmer or a military person. He went to Arcen, The Netherlands, which was then in Spanish territory. On 4 January 1675 he married Elisabeth Verscheuren. In the wedding document it says that he is from Maastricht and she is from Gennebeeck (Gennebreck in Germany). We can't date either of them further back, but we expect them to be born around 1650.
They settle in Straelen, Germany, which was then Spanish Territory. It is the start of the Straelen branch, which is still active. It has become clear that there is only one Servaes family active in Germany and that is us.
In 1713 one child heads for Dusseldorf, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany and starts the Dusseldorf branch, which is still active. Around 1740 two grandchildren head for Venlo, Netherlands and one grandchild for Maastricht. The Venlo branch died around 1900. The Maastricht branch became the largest branch and is still active. Out of the Maastricht branch came the London-Massachusetts branch around 1850. In both the UK and the USA those branches are still active.
