Willie Lewis, a 19-year-old plumber. On New's Year's Eve of 1889, he haddrinks with a man named Frank Fabre. Frank fell asleep. While he slept Willie had taken a burned cork and blackened his face as a prank. Frank woke up and got very angry. They went out in the street to fight. Frank pulled a knife and stabbed Willie in the gut, and a second stab in the shoulder. Willie was taken to a local hospital. Johanna, his mother visited every day. His wounds became infected and he died two weeks later. In May, when a judge was sentencing Frank, he stated that he was ashamed that we lived in a city where the hospital wasn't clean enough for a dog. Willie shouldn't have died from his wounds. The judge sentenced Frank Fabre to 4 years in San Quentin. The day before he died the hospital allowed the family to take Willie home.
