There is a Robert Evans who died May 16, 1816 at age 52 according to the inscription
on a very large tombstone (‘very large’ according to the transcriber) in the Blackhead Old
Historic United Church Cemetery and an entry in the Blackhead Church Burial Records.
This would make his birth year about 1764. It is possible that this Robert Evans was the
grandfather of Clement’s father Robert but no evidence of direct connection can be
established at this time. As more transcriptions of records become available on the
Newfoundland sites, perhaps such evidence will one day appear.
1. Robert Evans b in England and an early settler of Adams Cove in Conception Bay.
In the early to mid 18th century the early settlers at Adams Cove included James Adams,
Robert Evans and George Hudson. (Wikipedia - Adams Cove). Robert Evans appears in
the Plantations Book* vol 13 for Conceptions Bay (transcribed on NLGenWeb) in three
entries which date his presence in Adams Cove to 1756, 1799 and 1786. At these times
he owned property delineated in the Plantations Book and therefore was one of the early
permanent residents. Assuming that this Robert Evans came from England to settle in
Adams Cove, he was probably in the 20 to 30 age range when he arrived. This Robert
Evans may have been the father of the above Robert Evans who was born around 1764
and the ancestor of the Evans’s of Adams Cove. Again, there is no direct evidence of this
at this point
