~~1~~Clinton Osborn, his grandson, told me, "Oliver and Laura married in Pixley in 1881, and homesteaded there. By 1900, they moved to Success Valley, where at Bruff's Corner, they started a dairy business on land marked 'A. Hershberger' in the 1892 Atlas of Tulare County. They operated the dairy from 1900-1916. Laura had developed significant allergies, and in 1898, the Osborn's went to the north fork of the Tule River, near Balch Park in the summer. Nathan Dillon had a shingle mill there. Nathan was growing old, nearly blind, and unable to do the hard work required to manage much of his industry. He needed to build a flume and engaged Oliver to do the work for him. He couldn't pay him cash, but offered to lease his property across the river to him for $50/year for 3 years. The Osborn's spent the time they could spare away from the dairy up there during this time. After 3 years, Mr. Dillon doubled the lease fee, and this proved too much for the Osborn family to afford. They stopped using the area, but missed it a lot, and kept their eye on it. Mr. Dillion died in 1903. The property passed through several hands, finally being owned by Ted Kernel. He offered to sell for a resonable price in 1916, and the Osborn family bought it, and moved there in 1916. There was a 2 story house on the property then, which the Osborn's occupied." This has been the Osborn Ranch near the base of Mt. Denison where Clyde and Juanita lived for their entire married lives, and Clinton Osborn now lives.
