~~<>~~The surname Fick derives from the German diminutive for Sophia, Fiege or Figge. This family was among the most prominent pioneer iron masters in Nassau-Siegen, being founders of at least five ironworks between 1400 and 1475, Muenkershuetten and Fickenhuetten in the Weidenau township, Dilnhuetten in the Bottenbach township, Geisweid in the Klafeld township, and Dilnhenrichuetten, to be called Sighuetten later, in the Siegen township. Holtzclaw states, 'in 1461, of the 13 ironmasters in the Siegen parish, 4 were named Fick, and paid half the tax paid by all 13; in 1486, 9 of 33 were Ficks and they paid 2/5 of the taxes.
