John was obliged by his father to settle the manor of Great Thurlow and Pledgdon, Essex on his step mother, Joan de Creye, which he did before her death in 1302. Even though he was eldest son, John was more or less completely disinherited by his father, in favor of the eldest son by his 2nd wife. This son, Gilbert, became 1st Baron Pecche. [info from Complete Peerage, X:336, note "e"]: John settled the properties sometime between Aug 1291 & 1302. I don't know whether it was upon John's death or whether he was still alive.
