Sir Roger la Warre, 1st Lord (Baron) la Warre, so created by writ 6 Feb 1298/9; Capt at Bourg-su-Mer 1297/8 while on service with Edward I in France, present Siege Carlaverock July 1300, being then a banneret, Envoy to the Pope July 1304. [Burke's Peerage]nd Mabel, daughter of Sir Fulk Fitz Warin. [Ancestral Roots]olkington, lsfield, &c., Sussex, son and heir of Sir John LA WARRE (living 27 May 1277) (f), of Wickwar and Brislington, by Olimpia, daughter of Sir Hugh DE FOKINTON, of Folkington, Isfield, &c (a). As holding a knight's fee in Sussex, he was distrained in 1278 to receive knighthood on or before Christmas. He did homage and swore fealty to the Archbishop of Canterbury for the manor of Isfield, 1 July 1279. He was with the King in the Army of Wales in 1282. Being about to set out for Santiago, he had letters of protection for a year, 10 August 1290, and again, 18 January 1291/2. Was in Gascony on the King's service 1294- to 1297, being Captain of Bourg-Sur-Mer in [1297-98], and was at the siege of Carlaverock in July 1300, being then a banneret. He was summoned for Military Service from 6 April 1282 to 22 May 1319, to Councils, 14 June 1287 and 8 January 1308/9, to attend the King wherever he might be, 8 June 1294, to attend the Coronation, 18 January 1307/8, and to Parliament from 6 February 1298/9 to 16 June 1314, by writs directed Rogero la Warre, whereby he is held to have become LORD LA WARRE. As Rogerus la Warre dominus de lsefeld' he took part in the Barons' Letter to the Pope, 12 February 1300/1. He was appointed an envoy to the Court of Rome in July 1304, but the embassy was delayed until July 1305, owing to the death of Benedict XI. He married, in or before September 1276, Clarice, elder daughter and coheir of Sir John TREGOZ, of Ewyas Harold, co. Hereford, Allington, Wilts, Albrighton, Salop, Great Doddinigton, Northants, &c., [Lord Tregoz], by his 1st wife, Mabel daughter of Sir Fulk FITZWARIN, of Whittington, Salop. She was living in April 1289, and died v.p., that is, before 28 August 1300. He died 20 June 1320. [Complete Peerage IV:139-41, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]. Jordan was son and heir of John la Warre, to whom John, Count of Mortain, when holding the honour of Gloucester, granted the manor of Brislington, Somerset./3, and was living in Aug 1265. Her father, Hugh (whose widow, Margaret, m. William d'Englefield, and was living in Apr 1252), was son and heir of Hugh de Fokinton, of Folkington, Isfield, Tarring, Exceat, and Cholington, who d. before 1 June 1214, leaving a widow, Egeline. The elder Hugh, preavus of Roger la Warre, knight, gave one-third of the advowson of Tarring to the monks of Lewes.
