   LifeSketch: Bethóc was the oldest daughter of Malcolm II of Scotland (also known as Máel Coluim mac Cináeda, King of Scots) born about 984 at Atholl, Scotland. The name of her mother was not recorded, she was said to have been an Irishwoman from Ossory. Bethoc had no living brothers at the time of her father's death in 1034 and therefor her oldest son Duncan I (Donnchad mac Crinain) succeeded to the throne.married Crinan the Thane, Mormaer of Atholl, Abthane of Dule, Steward of the Western Isles, and Lay Abbot of Dunkeld, the son of Duncan, Mormaer of Atholl. Together they were the founders of the Royal House of Dunkeld, they are believed to have had 4 children, 2 sons and 2 daughters:of Æthelred II, King of England. her husband and both her sons. Her oldest son King Donnchad (Duncan I) died in 1040. Her husband Crinan and younger son Maldred both died in 1045. Bethóc herself died 15 September 1049 at Dunkeld.Bethoc was also known as Beatrix of Scotland, Bethoc of Alba, Baroness of Atholl and the Heiress of Scone. She was the last of the House of Alpin/House of MacAlpin. She and her husband were the progenitors of the House of Dunkeld.
   CONTRARY TO POPULAR OPINION BETHOC WAS NEVER QUEEN: Bethoc was the daughter of a king and mother of a king, but she herself was never queen, her son Duncan succeeded her father.
