LifeSketch: SIR DAVID BETHUNE, 1ST OF CREICH, TREASURER OF SCOTLAND was born about 1465 of Creich Castle, Creich, Fife, Scotland, to Lord John Beaton or Bethune (1430-) and Margaret Boswell (1443-1530.) He married Janet Duddingston about 1480.s IV (of Scotland, 1488-1513), the estate of Creich, in the parish of that name in Fife, was acquired by Sir David Bethune, second son of Sir John Bethune and Marjory Boswell. Sir David was brought up in his youth with King James IV, who held him in great favor. He was first appointed Comptroller of the Exchequer, and subsequently Lord High Treasure of Scotland, which office he held until his death.n Duddingston, 1st of Sanford (1444-1488) and Deborah Creich (1447-1480). She married David Bethune about 1480.76.ecame the third wife of James the first, Earl of Arran of the Hamiltons, and nephew of King James III.
