East Kelowna is a community located in the Okanagan region of the Canadian province of British Columbia. Situated on bench land east of Okanagan Lake, it is within the boundaries of the city of Kelowna. A post office opened on 1 November 1909 (which closed in 1926 and reopened two years later) and was officially identified as East Kelowna on December 31, 1982. It took its current name from Kelowna, referring to "grizzly bear" in the Okanagan language, and its position east of the central business district. The neighborhood has operated a community centre since 1940, which has been designated a historic place of the Central Okanagan regional district since 2001. A general recreational complex, East Kelowna Park, serves local residents.
