As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 5, and is one of only a handful of places in the United States with a population of five people. Somerset is one of five unincorporated towns in Vermont. The town disincorporated in 1937. The town has no local government and the town's affairs are handled by a state-appointed supervisor.
