Funeral services for Theodore M. Thaden, age 95, of rural Twin Brooks, SD were at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998 in the First Presbyterian Church in Wilmot, SD, with the Reverend Eldon DeBoer officiating. Mr. Thaden died on Wednesday,Oct. 14, 1998 in St. Bernard's Providence Hospital in Milbank. Music was presented by Neoma Ballhagen, organist/accompanist; Jane Thaden, pianist; and a ladies' quartet. Burial was in the Wilmot City Cemetery. Pallbearers were MarloweVreim, Willis R. Hanson, Orrin Scholberg, Jack Hippen, Lester E. Schimmel and Kenneth Wiese.
He was born on August 26, 1903, in Davis, SD, the son of Martin and Grace (Kuper) Thaden. Theodore lived in the Davis, SD area until 1906 when he moved with his family to Tacoma, Washington. He attended grade school there. In 1916 hisfamily moved to South Dakota and settled near Marvin, SD. Theodore was united in marriage to Grace Hippen at Sisseton, SD on April 8, 1937. Following marriage, the couple moved to a farm in Kilborn Township, Grant Co., SD where theylived all of their married life. Theodore was a lifelong farmer who continued to take pride in keeping his farmyard neat and beautiful even in his retirement years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wilmot and hadserved as treasurer for Kilborn Township Board for several years. He enjoyed life, keeping busy with daily activities and enjoyed having his family around him. Survivors include his wife, Grace, rural Twin Brooks; three sons and twodaughters-in-law, Gerald and Darlene, Marvin, SD; Harold, Twin Brooks, SD and Ronald and Linda, Vermillion, SD; one daughter, Ruth Thaden, Sioux Falls, SD; one stepdaughter, Edna Whempner, Wilmot, SD; four grandchildren: Scott, Tom, Janeand Rodney Thaden; a special friend of the family, Paula Tennis; several nieces and nephews. Theodore was preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers and three sisters.
The Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home of Milbank was in charge of the arrangements.'
