'Folkingham Parish 13/2/1 William Cullen aged 39 G R Lincolnshire Kesteven The Examination of William Cullen of the Parish of Folkingham in the Parts of Kesteven and County of Lincoln aforesaid, Grocer taken on Oath before John Myers,Clerk of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace, for the Said Parts of Kesteven this 6th Day December in the Year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred, touching the Place of his last legal Settlement The said Examinant, (being sworn)faith, That he is thirty nine Years of Age, and was born in the Parish of Spittlegate in the said County as he hath heard and believes - That when he was about fourteen years of age he was bound apprentice to Farmer Green of LongBennington in the said County for the term of seven years which he served. That he has lived in several places since and that about five years since he took a farm at Castle Bytham in the said County, at upwards of twenty pounds a YearRent belonging to John Heathcote Esq. and that he hath done no service (since) to gain Settlement elsewhere. Spittlegate, a township, in the parish and union of Grantham, wapentake of Winnibriggs and Threo, parts of Kesteven, county of Lincoln, 1 mile (S. by E.) from Grantham; containing 1980 inhabitants, and comprising 2125a. 2r. 34p. A churchdedicated to St. John was built in 1841, containing 800 sittings, of which 400 are free; the cost of erection was £4000. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the gift of the Vicar of Grantham.
