Frances' maiden name is unknown. Her birth can only be estimated as c1611. Frances Phelps, the wife of George Phelps, died 27 Sep 1690 in Westfield, Massachusetts.
She first married a Mr. Clark; the name of her first husband is unknown. They had one child, a daughter Mary Clark born about 1638; she married John Strong in 1656. Mary Clark's marriage record simply states she was the daughter of the widow Frances Clark. Mary Clark Strong died in 1663, and John Strong married second Elizabeth Warriner.
The widow Frances Clark married second Thomas Dewey, 22 Mar 1638 in Windsor, Connecticut. He had been previously married about 1633/5 in Dorchester to an unknown spouse. Thomas Dewey died in 1648.
By Frances' second marriage to Thomas Dewey, they had five children, Thomas born in 1639 who married Constant Hawes; Josiah born in 1641 who married Hepzibah Lyman; Anna Dewey born in 1643 who married John Woodward; Israel Dewey born in 1645 who married Abigail Drake; and Jedidiah Dewey born in 1647 who married Sarah Orton.
After Thomas Dewey's death, Frances married George Phelps, 2 Nov 1648 in Windsor, as his second wife after the death of Phillury. They had three children.
By Frances' third marriage to George Phelps, they had Jacob Phelps born in 1649 who married Dorothy Ingersoll; John Phelps born in 1651 who married Sarah Buckland; and Nathaniel Phelps born in 1654 who married Eunice.
There is no proof that she was the sister of Philura Randall, George Phelps' first wife, although a good argument can be made that she was also the daughter of Philip Randall. All that is said is that George married Frances, the widow of Thomas Dewey.
