Linda Shillingstad is survived by daughter Jina, son BJ, husband Jim, and 5 grandchildren; sisters: Joan Peterson, Gail Nordstom, Francis (Jim) Peterson, Carol (Frank) Ducheneaux, Subby (Rick) Reed; brother Greg (Gwen) Tatro.

She was preceded in death by father Milton Tatro in 1966, mother Cleo, and sister Charlotte Anderson.

"Linda 'Billie' Shillingstad of Mobridge, South Dakota May 26, 1950 - September 13, 2018

Memorial services for Linda "Billie" Shillingstad, 68, of Mobridge will be at 11 AM, Friday, October 19, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge. A memorial visitation will start at 5 PM Thursday with a prayer service at 7 PM at Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge. Billie passed away Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.

Linda Shillingstad was born May 26, 1950. She was the 6th of 8 kids. The 5 children before her were all girls so by number 6 her dad was hoping for a boy and from this situation came the nickname Billie. Luckily right after Billie was born her brother Greg was born so her dad did finally get his boy and then another girl.

Billie was born in the Mobridge Hospital. In 1952 her family moved to Wisconsin. When she was 4 years old they moved back to Mobridge. She went to school at the Lincoln School and then moved to the country where she went to school at Wayside and Rabenburg schools. In 1964 she moved back to town and went to school at the Mobridge High School.

On March 11, 1969 Billie gave birth to Jina in Mobridge. On February 21, 1972 BJ was born in Denver, CO.

Billie married Jim Shillingstad on October 31, 1975 at the Trinity Lutheran Church.

She lived in Mobridge and worked at Western Rancher and Schwartz Drugstore which later was bought from Burt Anderson by Russ and Bev Hatch when it was renamed Hatch Drug.

In 1987 Jina graduated from high school and Jim moved to Huron, SD to work on the DM&E railroad. After BJ graduated in 1990 Billie joined Jim in Huron. She worked at Osco Drug as a pharmacy technician until it closed in 2006. She then started her own cleaning business in which she was in hot demand and always had a waiting list of new clients.

While Jim and Billie lived in Huron all 5 of their grandkids were born. Wyatt (1995), Sydney (1998), Jayda (1999), Chipper (2000) and Jeselyn (2008). Billie absolutely loved her grandchildren. Grandma and Papa were relied upon greatly for helping with the grandkids and they did so lovingly. Always attending their school functions, dropping off and picking up from school, going to sporting functions, etc. Billie's grandkids and kids loved it when she cooked for them. Some of the favorites were cream chicken, kniffla and homemade tomato soup, cheese buttons (always a favorite birthday supper), and many, many baked items. Although her cooking and baking was always great the favorite time of year for them was Christmas when she'd bake her goodies (especially SUGAR COOKIES).

Grandma always knew how to make her grandkids feel special. They were very important to her and when she was sick she was asked if she wanted to do something special or go see a special place her response was "I just want to watch my grandkids grow up."

When the grandkids were asked what did you really love about your grandma or what made her special to you they said this about her:

"I really liked her cooking and loved going to the farm and seeing her when we would go hunting there."

"I'll always remember how Grandma never let anything get her down even through cancer. She always tried, to the best of her ability, to put a smile on her face and everyone around her. She was one tough lady and I will always look up to her for that."

"Grandma lit up the room with her smile and could make anyone feel special with her caring and funny personality."

"To say that my Grandma was the best is an understatement, there isn't even a word to explain how great she was. My Grandma was literally the best cook ever. My favorite meal she would make would probably have to be her cheese buttons. She was the most creative person I have ever known. Even her Christmas wrapping paper would be the coolest things and I would never want to ruin the wrapping paper because it was so pretty. The best memories I have with her are when she would let us help her cook and when she would get to pick us up from school or practice and we would get to go to her and Papa's house and hangout and make food."

"Grandma was special to me because she really cared about me and really loved me. Some of my favorite memories with Grandma are when I got stung by a wasp and she fixed it for me. She would always let me play dress up with her clothes and play with her makeup. She would let me help her wash dishes and I would just clean her sink with dish soap and watch her little TV in the kitchen and sit on the counter. I liked it when we would go on four wheeler rides at their place in Mobridge. I loved sleeping with my Grandma. I didn't like it when the other kids would lock me up downstairs but Grandma would always come and save me."

Jim retired from the railroad in 2008 and he and Billie moved back to Mobridge in December 2013. They built their current home in 2014 on the land where Jim grew up.

Billie was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the Spring of 2015. She never complained or felt sorry for herself through her entire illness. If you asked her how she was doing she would tell you, "ok". She fought this disease with the Tatro pigheadedness and never gave into it. Unfortunately, on September 12th a procedure did not go the way we would have liked it to and she succumbed to the results on September 13, 2018.

She was preceeded in death by her father-Milton Tatro, mother-Cleo Tatro (Mulder), sister-Charlotte Anderson (Tatro), niece-LeAnn Anderson, brother-in-law-Lloyd Anderson, nephew-Paul Ducheneaux, nephew-Walt Peterson, brother-in-law-LeRoy Nordstrom, brother-in-law-Rick Godkin, and nephew-Randy Godkin.

She is survived by Jim Shillingstad-husband, Jina Shillingstad-daughter, BJ Shillingstad-son, Wyatt Shillingstad-grandson, Sydney Shillingstad-granddaughter, Jayda Shillingstad-granddaughter, Chipper Shillingstad-grandson, Jeselyn Matthews-granddaughter, Shelly Siemonsma-close friend, Zack Siemonsma-close friend, Derick Siemonsma-close friend, Makenzie Siemonsma-close friend, Nicholas Matthews-close friend, Joan Peterson (Tatro)-sister, Gail Nordstrom (Tatro)-sister, Francis (Jim) Peterson (Tatro)-sister, Carol (Frank) Ducheneaux (Tatro)-sister, Greg (Gwen) Tatro-brother, Subby (Rick) Reed (Tatro)-sister, Linda (Pogo) Lutz (Shillingstad)-sister-in-law, Carol Godkin (Shillingstad)-sister-in-law, along with many very special nieces, nephews, and friends.

In lieu of memorial flowers and plants, the family requests memorial trees to be planted out at Billie and Jim's Home."
