Rhonda Wiebers, age 50, of Bellevue, NE, formerly Lennox, SD, died surrounded by her family, Sunday, December 9, 2018 at the Sanford Foundation Hospice Cottage, Sioux Falls, SD, following an 11 year battle with metastatic breast cancer.
Rhonda Jean Wiebers was born on December 31, 1967, at Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD, the daughter of Orville and Corliss (Schoffelman) Wiebers. She grew up in Lennox attending Lennox Public Schools and graduated from Lennox High School in 1986. She went on to graduate from Augustana College with degrees in Elementary and Special Education. Later she earned her masters degree from the University of Nebraska, Omaha. She taught elementary and special education for the past 28 years, for the Bellevue School District, Bellevue NE. In addition to teaching, Rhonda served as the District Science Curriculum Consultant, was selected to participate in the prestigious Nebraska Primary Math Academy in 2012 and was the 2012/2013 recipient of the Bellevue Public Schools "Making A Difference Award".
Rhonda was an active and faithful member of the Thanksgiving Church of Bellevue, NE where she served on the Church Council, Youth Leader, VBS Preschool Director, Summer Daycamp Director (Kids of the King), Worship Coordinator, Life Group Member and other roles. She was raised attending First English Lutheran Church, Lennox, SD. She was a member of the Bellevue Dawn Optimist Club were she served in a host of leadership roles at the club and district levels including Nebraska District Lieutenant Governor. She was a sports fan whose eclectic taste for sports included baseball, specifically, the College World Series, National Swimming trials, Olympic Gymnastics, Cornhusker and Creighton teams and NASCAR racing, specifically driver, Jimmy Johnson. Rhonda loved hot air balloons and fulfilled her wish for a ride. Most of all she loved her family, the children she taught and her many loyal friends.
Rhonda was preceded in death by her grandparents, John and Leona Schoffelman and grandfather, John Wiebers.
Grateful for having shared her life are her parents, Orville and Corliss Wiebers, Lennox; sisters: Kristi (Robbie) Sweeter and Holly (Jason) Doud all of Lennox; grandmother, Gladys Wiebers, Lennox; nieces/nephews: Drew Sweeter (Catelyn Rud), Grant Sweeter (Kennedy Clark), Corissa Sweeter, Easton Doud, and Justine Doud (Trenton Powell); great-nephew, Macksen Sweeter and great-niece, Molly Doud and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 15 at First English Lutheran Church, Lennox with burial to follow in the Lennox Cemetery. Visitation with the family present, also at First English Lutheran, will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests backpacks, schools supplies and books for donation to underserved school children.

Rhonda's stone has a Nebraska Cornhuskers logogram on the reverse. I too attended the school, but at the Lincoln campus, before Rhonda was born. Go Big Red - Go Gargantuan Scarlet. - D. A. Navorska - ix Nov MMXX - in proximo Grove, OK.
