"Geraldine (Geri) Oelmann went to be with her Lord on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2020.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2020 at the First Presbyterian Church in Ackley with a 3 p.m. burial in the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Irvington, Iowa. Visitation was an hour before the service at church. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family and will be given to the Parkinson's Foundation. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley.
Geri was born to Gerald and Amelia (Stevens) Coleman on August 12, 1937, in a farmhouse in LuVerne, Iowa. After graduating from Corwith High School, she worked as a receptionist for Dr. Beardsley (who had delivered her). In July 1956, she married Kenneth Potter. To that marriage a son Loren and daughter Mary were born. The family moved to Ackley in 1968, where Geri spent her remaining days. The couple divorced, and in June 1989 Geri married Jade Oelmann. Geri worked at Shugar's Super Value for 25 years, Gooter's Drive thru, and McDonalds in Iowa Falls, retiring at 76.
Geri was a member of Ackley First Presbyterian Church where she served over the years as deacon, trustee, Sunday school teacher, and she was a member of the choir and UPW. She enjoyed being with family, Iowa State sports, gardening, flowers, birds and trees. She also enjoyed cooking and baking (especially bread).
Geri is survived by her husband Jade Oelmann of Ackley; children Loren Potter of Mandan, N.D., and Mary Potter of Ames; granddaughter Amelia (Cole) Brunmeier of Hazen N.D.; sisters Marlene Eastman of Irvington and Judy Romer of Algona. She also leaves behind her mother-in-law Ruth Oelmann of Ackley; brothers and sisters-in-law Velda (Roy) Hassman of Parkersburg, Randy (Darla) Oelmann of Ohio, Lee (Cheryl) Oelmann of Ackley, and Gary (Katie) Oelmann of Ackley, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Geri was preceded in death by her parents, Brothers-in-law Toby Eastman and Jim Romer, and father-in-law Duane Oelmann."
