GRUNDY CENTER - Melvin Henry Tack, 97, of Grundy Center, died Friday, Sept. 3, at Grundy Care Center.
He was born Nov. 27, 1912, north of Wellsburg, son of Richard and Etta Lindeman Tack. He married Jeanette Riekena March 12, 1936, at the parsonage of St. Peter's Evangelical and Reformed Church, northwest of Wellsburg. She preceded him in death.
He graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1933. He drove a truck, picking up milk and cream for Swift and Co. out of the Iowa Falls plant. He began farming in 1941 in Grundy County, later farming by Grundy Center and Holland until retirement. He drove a truck for local grain haulers. Mr. Tack was a member of American Lutheran Church.
Survived by: three sons, Royce (Norma) Tack of Osage, Dennis (Linda) Tack of Hollister, Mo., and Leland (Wendy) Tack of Johnston; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a stepgreat-great-granddaughter; and a brother, Kenneth (Beulah) Tack of Wellsburg.
Preceded in death by: three brothers, Harvey, Lawrence and Dale Tack; and a great-granddaughter, Megan Schmit
Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at American Lutheran Church, Grundy Center, with burial in Holland Cemetery, Holland. Public visitation from 4:30 to 7 p.m. today at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center.
