Roger Oosterink, age 89, went to be with his Lord Wednesday, November 22, 2017. He was born November 26, 1927 in Grandville, Michigan the son to Jacob and Katherine (Isenga) Oosterink. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and in-laws Leon Oosterink, Dale and Marlene Oosterink, Gerald Oosterink, Esther Postma, Eleanor Oosterink, Kathy Meekhof, Jacqueline Crawford, Gertrude Becker, Elmer and Stella Buchholz, Elmer and Esther Buchholz and Patsey Sall. Roger served as a member of the United States Navy during World War II.
Roger worked as a construction superintendent on several major projects including the John Ball Zoo, Grand Rapids Water Treatment Plant and the Calvin Seminary. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping. He also loved telling stories and singing in his church choir. Roger was a current member of the Hudsonville Reformed church, he served as a trustee for the First United Methodist Church of Vero Beach, FL. and the Board of Directors for the Cran-Hill Ranch. He also volunteered his time to operate the sound system for Fair Haven Reformed Church, lent humanitarian aid on a mission trip to Africa in 1970 and help educate young minds teaching Blueprint Reading, Advance Blueprint and Hotel - Motel Management at Grand Rapids Community College.
Roger was a faithful husband, father, grandfather and "Papa Great" who will be deeply missed by his wife of 67 years Estella "Skip" (Buchholz); his children Sharon (Ronald) Deering, Denise (Mark) Mollenhauer, Marie (Richard) Groot, R. Douglas (Terri Clark) Oosterink, Danielle (Timothy) Smith and Bonnie (Len) Null; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; siblings Kenneth (Jane deceased) Oosterink, Lois (Chet) Lozoski, Wilma (Albert) Zandstra, Nancy Swartz, Howard (Jean) Oosterink, Gary (Pat) Oosterink, Wayne (Bonnie) Oosterink and Mark (Barb) Oosterink; brothers and sisters-in-law Wayne Crawford, Roger (Gloria) Meekhof, Henry (Elaine) Buchholz, Barbara Oosterink and Wendell Becker along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended relatives.
Roger's family will meet with relatives and friends from 2- 4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, November 27, 2017 at the Cook Funeral Home (East building) 4235 Prairie St. SE, Grandville, Michigan. Funeral services for Roger will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 28 at the Hudsonville Reformed Church - 3950 Highland Dr., Hudsonville, Michigan with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. A private family interment will be in Georgetown Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Hudsonville Reformed Church Building Fund or Faith Hospice.
