"Dolores Modder, 93, formerly of Sheldon
Apr 26, 2016
MESA, AZ Dolores Marie Dailey Larsen Modder passed away peacefully with her children, brother, and niece at her bedside in Mesa, AZ, on April 13, 2016, two weeks after her 93rd birthday. Dolores was content and happy, exuded gratitude and joy to all who cared for her in the memory care unit, where she enjoyed crafts, yoga, music, dancing, and scenic bus rides. Her sweet smile, expressive eyes and gentle, free spirit will be missed by those who loved her.
Dolores was born March 31, 1923, in Sioux Rapids, the eldest of four. She graduated from Sioux Rapids High School and then secretarial school in Des Moines. Dolores married Dale Larsen (also of Sioux Rapids) in 1943 in Sacramento, CA, before he shipped overseas. She worked at the Hanford Site in WA (part of the Manhattan Project to build an atomic bomb). After the war, they returned to Sioux Rapids, opened a business, built a home, and started their family. In 1954, they moved to Sheldon and raised three children. Dolores was active in St. Patrick's Catholic Church and enjoyed gardening, sewing, family gatherings, and summers at Lake Okoboji (where they had a summer home). In 1974, she married Lambert Modder. They traveled extensively after retirement and Dolores became very involved in genealogy. They made their home in Mesa, AZ, for the over 30 years.
Dolores was preceded in death by infant daughter, Barbara Jo, husbands Dale Larsen and Lambert Modder, parents Alma Gebhart Dailey and Harvey Dailey Sr., and sisters Marilyn Vaught (George, d.) and Shirley Dailey. She is survived by brother Harvey (Lois, d.) Dailey Jr. of Waterloo, IA, and Green Valley, AZ, children Judy (Don, d.) Jones of Roseville, CA, Nancy (Charisse) Larsen of Tacoma, WA, and Joel (Tina) Larsen of Ocheyedan, IA. She was blessed with grandchildren Carly Jones, Amy Jones, Adam (Jennifer) Larsen, Kyle Larsen, and great-grandchildren Aedan and Gabrielle Larsen, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The date for a graveside memorial has yet to be decided; it will take place at Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. The family wishes to extend special thanks and express their gratitude to the staff of Brookdale Senior Living in Mesa and Cozy Home Care.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org)."
