HILDA MARTZAHN BECKER
FORT DODGE Hilda Martzahn Becker, 98, of Fort Dodge, died Monday (June 23, 2003) at the Hamilton Hospital in Webster City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge, with the Rev. James Zuehl officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church.
The Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include Donna Becker, of Mason City, Bonita Klaver and her husband, Howard, of Kamrar, Iowa, and Helene Tietjen, of Dixon, Ill. Other survivors are four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Becker; her parents, John and Augusta (Kiehn) Martzahn; an infant sister; and a son-in-law, Richard Tietjen.
Hilda Martzahn was born on a farm near Greene, but soon moved to the town of Greene. After graduating from Greene High School, she enrolled at Iowa State Teachers College, now the University of Northern Iowa. After receiving her juniorcollege diploma, she taught third and fourth grades in Allison for one year.
She then returned to UNI to get her B.A. degree. While there, Hilda was given membership in three national honorary fraternities. She was very active in college activities and served as president of her class.
After graduation, Hilda taught English and debate in the Lake Mills High School for six years. She then married William H. Becker, a science teacher and they lived in Northwood, Grinnell, Manchester, Webster City, and Fort Dodge.
Following her marriage, Hilda Becker devoted her time to the family and church activities. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church for more than 40 years." <>
