Thomas Bosma, Sr. was the second child of six children - four sons and two daughters - born to Lorence Bosma and Anna (Rust) Bosma. Anna Rust was born in Ostfriesland, Germany, March 29, 1954 and came to America with her parents in 1866 at the age of 12 years. She grew to young womanhood at Wellsburg, Iowa. Her first job was working in the home of an uncle, Harm Rust. His father, Lorence Bosma, was born in Germany where he grew to young manhood. After seven years of apprenticeship training in blacksmithing and wagon making, he came to America to establish his trade. During this time he made seven voyages to Germany. He also made Wellsburg his home.

The couple farmed in Steamboat Rock, Lohrville and Wesleyareas in Iowa before moving to Minnesota. Lorence Bosma passed away in 1912 while living at Breckenridge, Minnesota. Anna (Rust) Bosma came back to Titonka, Iowa with her family and later to Buffalo Center. She passed away on May 23,1932. ..."
