"Ona Sleper, 96 Ona Madeline Sleper, 96, of Huxley, formerly of Maxwell, Iowa, died Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 27 at the Maxwell Presbyterian Church. Burialwas Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in Buffalo Grove Cemetery. The Bacon Funeral Home of Maxwell was in charge of arrangements. Ona was born March 4, 1912 at Belmond, Iowa, the daughter of Guy and Inga (Hanson) Barton. She graduated from the Buffalo Center High School where she received Normal Training. She then taught at rural schools in Winnebago and Kossuthcounties for several years. She was united in marriage to Henry Sleper on December 28, 1934 at her parents home near Buffalo Center. Henry preceded Ona in death on July 5, 1975. She moved to Maxwell in 1979. She was a member of theMaxwell Presbyterian Church, United Presbyterian Women and the Monday Study Club. Ona was an avid reader and enjoyed writing prayers, poems and short stories. Ona loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ona is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Gary and Trina Sleper of Battle Creek, Michigan; two daughters and sons-in-law: Jeanne and Bill Shelledy of Des Moines, Iowa, Joyce and Jerry Harmon of Maxwell, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 25great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren. Ona was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 1 great grandson, Chad; and two sisters: Mae Egesdal and Ruth Larson. Memorials may be made to the Maxwell Presbyterian Church and to the Ballard Creek Community Center in Huxley." <>
