"Don't weep for me as I'm with Jesus and soon you will see me again!"
Martha Jo Austin (Eggum) Meyer, 76, of Yates City, IL has gone home to be with Jesus. She passed away peacefully at the Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL, on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, after a brief illness with pancreatic cancer. Martha was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on July 9, 1941, to Glenn Douglas and Barbara Anne (Russell) Austin. As a young girl, Martha (Marty) moved to Thompson, Iowa, with her family, where her mother married John Eggum. Marty would later be adopted by John.
After graduation from Thompson High School, Marty worked at Wilson Grocery in Buffalo Center and would go on to spend a year traveling with God's Invasion Army. Upon her return, she married the love of her life, Wilhelm (Willie) Meyer of Lakota, Iowa, on March 30, 1963. Marty and Willie did farming, ran the Buffalo Center Greenhouse for several years, raised three children, were involved in construction & drywall, motel managing, apartment managing, and Marty spent 15 plus years working for Walmart in Payson, Arizona. While working for Motel 6, they were residents of Colorado, Wyoming and Arizona, where they spent about 28 years of their married life.
Marty trusted Christ at a young age and served in various positions in several churches throughout her life. She most recently attended Brimfield Evangelical Free Church in Brimfield, IL. Close to Marty and Willie's heart these past four years, has been Faith Bible Camp in Yates City, where they live and have served since moving back to the Midwest. Those who knew Marty knew she was passionate about her faith and her belief in Jesus. Her favorite Bible verses include Proverbs 3:5-6, which her desire was for everyone to "Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Lean not on your own understanding. In ALL your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your path straight!"
