Note: Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon of this week at the Zoar Presbyterian church NE of George for Eilert Bonk, Grant township farmer who died at the Sibley hospital on Friday afternoon of last week.
Mr. Bonk, who was well known in George, had been in poor health for several years. He had been suffering with gall trouble, but had been up and around most of the time until Monday of last week he became seriously ill and was taken to theSibley hospital on Tuesday. He underwent an operation on Thursday and passed the following day. Mr. Bonk's death came as a shock to his many friends here. Rev Selbert, pastor assisted by Rev GJ Kessler, former pastor, conducted theservices.
Eilert W Bonk, beloved husband of Mrs Martha Mary (Ackerman) Bonk, departed this life at the Osceola County Hospital on October 15th, 1937 following an operation. Mr. Bonk was born on April 14, 1902 and reached the age of 35 years, 6months and 1 day. He leaves to mourn his faithful wife and 5 children; Frederick Irwin, Marion Adele, Donald Aielert, Aile May and Fanola Martha. Mr Bonk is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Fanola Bonk and 3 sisters Bernice (Mrs AndrewKlaassen), Ailtha (Mrs David Vaselaar) and May (Mrs Donald Trei). Mr. Bonk's father Fred passed away in the prime of his life August 24, 1917.
Mr Bonk was united in marriage on April 17, 1923 and God blessed this union with the above mentioned surviving children. Mr. bonk was not only a faithful member of Zoar Presbyterian church for many years but served in the capacity oftrustee, assistant Sunday School superintendent and teacher to the best of his ability, ever ready and willing to give of his time and strength in the building up of a Christian community.
May the great God of love, mercy, and comforts reconcile our hearts to the tremendous loss we all feel in the sudden separation, caused by his departure. "The Lord gave, the Lord has taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord".
