Merrill E. Zwiefel died Thursday, July 14, 2011, at Kossuth Regional Health Center, Algona, at the age of 85.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Phyliss Zwiefel of Titonka; four children, M. Jane (Philip Seaberg of Garner, Barbara (Gary) Ludwig of forest City, Alan (Duly) Zwiefel of Ankeny, and Eugene (Jody) Zwiefel of Rock Island, Ill.; 11grandchildren, Douglas (Tricia) Seaberg of Overland Park, Kan., LaRae (Chad) Quick of Altoona, Michael (Heidi) Seaberg of Byron, Minn., Jaclyn (Scott) Heiser of Johnston, Nathan (Jill) Ludwig of Urbandale, Alexandra Zwiefel of West DesMoines, Traci Harre of Elkhart, and Sam, Sarah, Jacob, and Anna Zwiefel of Des Moines; and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, Cletus Zwiefel of Algona, Gary Zwiefel of Titonka, and Brian (Donna) Zwiefel ofAlgona; a sister, Patsy (Donald) Mugan of Valley City, N.D.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Donald Zwiefel and his wife Carol; and two sisters-in-law, Darlene and Thelma Zwiefel.

"Phyliss Zwiefel Dec. 30, 1925 - Dec. 29, 2018
Funeral services for Phyliss Zwiefel were celebrated on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019, at 11 a.m., at the Titonka United Methodist Church with the Rev. Todd Hartsock officiating. Burial was in the Buffalo Township Cemetery.
Phyliss Lorraine Zwiefel was born Dec. 30, 1925, in Hayfield, Iowa, the daughter of Sabo and Anna (Spieker) Hillenga. She attended school in Hayfield and later began working as a housekeeper.
Phyliss was united in marriage to Merrill Zwiefel on March 18, 1945. They lived and farmed southeast of Titonka and later moved into Titonka. She was a devoted farm wife and mother. Phyliss was later one of the original employees of the Titonka Care Center, which opened in 1973. She was a true caregiver working for 28 years at the care center.
She dearly loved all her grand and great-grandchildren, who enjoyed sitting on her lap. She was known as Grandma Phyliss to some and "Foof" to other relatives. Phyliss liked to play cards, golf, cook, bake and laugh. She was an active member of Doan Methodist Church and later the Titonka Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and MYF.
Phyliss died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018, at the Westview Care Center in Britt. She was 92.
She is survived by four children, M. Jane (Philip) Seaberg of Garner, their children, Douglas (TJ) Seaberg, LaRae (Chad) Quick, Michael (Heidi) Seaberg; Barbara (Gary) Ludwig of Forest City, their children, Jaclyn (Scott) Heiser and Nathan (Jill) Ludwig; Alan (Duly) Zwiefel of Ankeny, their children, Alexandra (Alex) Buck and Traci Richardson Harre; Eugene (Jody) Zwiefel of Rock Island, IL, their children, Sam, Sarah, Jake and Anna Zwiefel; 22 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers-in-law, Cletus, Gary and Brian (Donna) Zwiefel and sister-in-law, Patsy Mugan and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merrill on July 14, 2011; sister, Mae (Matt) Platt; sisters-in-law, Darlene and Thelma Zwiefel; brothers-in-law, Donny (Carol) Zwiefel and Don Mugan.
